Paying Your Bills Off

Recently a billpayregistry site has been launched that allows you to register online bills you need paying and than let your friends and family contribute towards the outstanding amount. There is no way
users can cash in donated gift money and the only way to spend it is to pay off any of the registered bills. The company take 5.9% off each donated amount in handling charges.

I think it's a great idea, but probably most of us would find it simpler just to ask their friends and relatives to help out. On the other side, I could imagine having such a "gift list" opened up for birthdays, Christmas, housewarming and  baby's arrival for young families...

The biggest downside is that the site caters only for USD transactions and money is deposited in one of the US banks, so in some cases the gift donations can be reduced not only by the service charge but also by the exchange rate
